Principal's Message

IMG-20190514-WA0001.jpgWelcome to St. Joseph’s College, Lucan, a vibrant and inclusive community of learning and of faith. We are a Catholic school community for girls, founded by the Presentation Sisters and under the trusteeship of CEIST. The holistic development of your daughter in a supportive atmosphere is our central educational goal. As a CEIST school our core values are;

  1. Promoting spiritual and human development
  2. Achieving quality in teaching and learning
  3. Showing respect for every person
  4. Creating community
  5. Being just and responsible

Our professional and progressive staff is committed to educational excellence, in a way which meets the varying needs of a diverse student body. A wide variety of subjects complemented by a rich extracurricular life makes our school a happy, successful and healthy environment for young girls.

We set high expectations for each student to achieve her full potential, to be creative and to experience curiosity and joy in her learning. We have a long tradition of academic achievement. Almost all of our students transfer to 3rd level and progress forward into careers which make a valuable contribution to society.

There is a strong culture of partnership among all members of the school community, which contributes to a dynamic and innovative school. Parents are invited to participate in the life of the school through the Parents’ Association and various aspects of school life. In addition, the senior management team is fully supported by a highly committed Board of Management and an in-school middle management structure.

Incoming First Years are supported by a pastoral structure comprising Year Head, Tutor, Cinnire Team and Guidance Counsellors. We endeavour to link closely with Primary schools to ensure the smooth transition to second level.

The student voice is articulated through a strong and confident Student Council who are guided by Mr O'Connor. A robust anti-bullying policy leads to a safe and positive school experience for students. The dignity of and respect for the person is the hallmark of relationships in the school.

We have introduced teaching and assessment approaches which ensure students achieve independence of mind and deep understanding in their various subjects. Teaching students how to learn and enabling them to recognise their learning strengths is a fundamental aspect of classroom activities. Following the Junior Cycle, all students complete Transition Year and consequently develop the maturity, confidence, skills and qualities for life and further education. At senior level students complete the Leaving Certificate Established and some also have the option of completing LCVP.

We are committed to creating a centre of excellence for your daughter and we prioritize the needs of the students in all of our decisions and actions. We look forward to the future with energy, hope and enthusiasm and are particularly excited about the planned extension of the school building.

I hope you enjoy your exploration of this website.
