Presentation Day Mass

Presentation Day Mass

On Thursday we celebrated the spirit and vision of Nano Nagle, founder of the Presentation Order. Thank you to the Presentation Sisters for the legacy they have left in our wonderful school. We thank Father Ubaldo for being the celebrant at our Presentation Day Mass. Thank you to all of the teachers in the RE Department for their ongoing work in the area of faith formation. Thank you to Ms Mellett, Ms Kearney, Ms Banks and all of the musicians & singers for the beautiful music and well done to our Head Girl, Kate Henry for her very accurate account and reflections on the life of Nano Nagle.

Nano taught the children of Cork (her home county) during the day and visited and nursed the sick by night. As a result, she became known in Cork as the Lady with the Lantern. She founded the Presentation Sisters in 1775 to continue this work after her death. The Presentation Sisters have educated young people and cared for the sick and the poor all over the world. The Presentation Sisters came to Lucan in 1867 and set up St. Joseph’s College in 1967.

During our ceremony, class prefects representing all year groups carried lanterns to the alter. These prefects, representing the whole school community, symbolised how they too can follow in the footsteps of Nano Nagle.

It was a wonderful occasion of inspiring speeches and beautiful singing.
