New Officers of the Parent's Association elected to the Parent's Association

Annual General Meeting (AGM) in St Joseph's College on the 2nd of October.

The following positions were appointed in the October AGM:

Chairperson: Patricia Mc Guire

Secretary: Rachel Duggan

Treasurer: Judith Cheng

What do we do?

- The Parent Association can advise the Principal and Board of Management on policy issues and incidents that may require a review of school policy, e.g. Bullying, Safety, Homework, Enrolment, Behaviour problems etc.

- The Parent Association invite the Student Council in to discuss things the students would like the PA to fundraise for. Last year the students looked for beanbags for the school library. The PA was able to provide new books, beanbags, couches and chairs and new blankets and cushions to create a soft chill out zone for the students.

- The Parent Association invite speakers to address the parents on issues which are topical or relevant such as John Lonergan’s talk on Irish Parenting and Dr Donal O’Shea talk on diet and obesity in Ireland.

- The PA fundraises for the school to purchase specific equipment for the school such as new library books and chairs, graduation ceremony student podium and sports equipment.

What’s new for 2019-2020?

The new Officers have a lot of plans for the coming school year with student focused events and fundraisers. This year the committee will look to identify some new ideas to provide the school with much needed support like a Bingo Night and a Pub Quiz.

The First Years Discos are an important way for new students to settle into the school and make new friends. The PA organise the discos and the funds raised are spent on student related projects such as new hockey jerseys and funding the Stay Awake Night in the school.

This year the PA is looking to provide new picnic benches for the school yard so students can sit outside in the good weather. This is an important project as the students really benefit from getting outside and taking a real break, especially around exam time or when they really need to take a break. This supports the school’s emphasis on mental health in the school.

In addition to the clothing collections held in the school, the PA have set up an account with the We Buy Used Clothing on Main Street in Leixlip. Parents can drop off bags to the shop and mention that the clothes are to be added to the St Joseph's College Parent's Association account. This means that bags can be dropped off at any time including the weekend. Thank you for your support in this fundraise, it really makes a difference.

Where can you find us?

The PA meets on the first Monday of every month in the Parish Center in St Mary’s Church, Lucan from 7.30-8.30pm. New parents are always welcome to join the committee, organise events and support or help at fundraisers.
