FLAG DAY AWARDS CEREMONY

On Monday 13th May, our Flag Day Committee were in Leinster House for the Flag Day Awards ceremony and a tour of the Houses of Oireachtas. Nur Binti Abduzzaher (3rd year) was presented with an award for her poem for the Flag Day Competition with the Thomas Francis Meagher Foundation - Well done Nur!

"What is it like to live in Ireland in 2019 and what does the flag's message of peace mean?"
We all know the feeling of life.
Life can mean love,
Life can mean hate,
But sometimes it hurts just like a knife.
What does flag day mean to me?
When you ask, that I can't see.
As everyone has a different view,
Well that much is at least true.
2019 we all know this year.
The year of change is now near.
With brexit today,
And global warming tomorrow
What can we not achieve
For until now we have survived
The hardship we face in life.
We survived together,
We survived as one
And together we shall see the new future that has begun.
So again you ask me what does flag day mean to me?
The flag represents who we are today, tomorrow and always.
We are one,
We are the same
As no one can change what we've become today.
It represents peace, it represents unity
But most of all it represents our community.
So again you ask me what does flag day mean?
Well now you know and now you see.
