Message from Guidance Dept

A message from our Guidance Department.

Dear 6th years 2020 and Parents/Guardians,

Well what a week this has been. Firstly, receiving your results last Monday brought tears of happiness for many, along with renewed expectation and hope for what might come on Friday. For others though I know there was disappointment and I am very sorry for you for that since you have already gone through so much!

Many of you will be pleased with the first round offers however, as I go through the points and the courses I know that there will be more disappointment. The rise in points on courses this year is unprecedented despite the government intervention with extra places. To those of you who got your top choices WELL DONE and CONGRATULATIONS. I am truly happy for you. However, to those of you who remain disappointed and confused I have the following advice:

(a) Make an appointment by email with me for a zoom or school meeting where we can look at all your options - repeating one or more subjects etc.
(B) Have a look at the Available Places list on the CAO website. No points apply but you will need to meet the entry requirements for each course e.g. Level 8 courses need a minimum of 2H5 and 4 O/H4 Contact me if you find one you like and I will help you with the next step. Don't get your hopes up though, there are very few on the list for Dublin.
(c) Consider a PLC course that may lead you into your CAO course next year or into employment
(d) Consider one of the new Apprenticeships - apprenticeships.ie
(e) Consider a public sector job at entry level - publicjobs.ie

Most importantly can you email me the offer you received from the CAO or if you received no offer I would also like to know - adonohue@stjosephslucan.com

You are all in my thoughts and prayers this week, take care and stay safe,

Ms Donohue
