Transition Year


Transition Year is a compulsory programme. It offers a rich and stimulating array of opportunities for experiential learning. Students complete 3 ten week modules in the following subjects over the year.

New Subjects

Students experience an additional layer of new subjects not taught in Junior Cycle. They change from year to year but typically include non-European Languages; First Aid; Personal Grooming; Media; Crafts; Film Production; Sign Language.

Pastoral Placement Programme

A weekly Pastoral Placement Programme involves students caring in the community. Students arrange a placement with a voluntary organisation and spend each Wednesday assisting it with its service to the community. A teacher-mentor liaises with each student in a supportive capacity.
